In less than a week's time, five brave women will be performing stand-up comedy for the very first time, in aid of The Victoria Foundation, for the aptly-named Funny Women Charity Challenge.
A personal stylist, a burlesque performer, an advertising executive, TV presenter and a business consultant, we can't wait to see what their diverse backgrounds bring to their performances! You can sponsor these courageous Challengers HERE.
Anita Feron Clark, a multi-award winning image consultant, runs her own successful personal styling consultancy in Surrey and London: Feron Clark Style. Anita is passionate about making women feel great about themselves. She has never done stand-up comedy before, but thought it would be easier to raise money for charity this way as opposed to running 10km….she is not so sure now! (Pictured top)
Carrie Cantor began her career in TV with LWT and IBA before moving on to international advertising giants DMB&B where she worked on global accounts. 10 years ago she set up her own company, CHA, with her west highland terrier, Oscar, as 'head of security'. Why is she doing stand-up? Carrie swears it was all a mix up and she thought someone was asking her to vacate her chair. There’s no going back now though… (Pictured middle)
Charlotte Hogg is Founder of The Change Gang, a business consultancy that helps individuals and businesses innovate in the areas of entrepreneurship, fundraising, health and education. She is also author of 'The Handbook of Entrepreneurial Marketing' and teaches and mentors at Doug Richards's School 4 Creative Startups and PeterJones's Enterprise Academy. (Pictured bottom)
Zoe Charles, inspired by the 1940's, all things feminine and the emerging neo-burlesque movement, recreated herself as burlesque star Lady Cheek in 2005 and has been wowing audiences the world over ever since with silver siren elegance and cheeky charms. In 2007 Zoe founded The Cheek of It! school of burlesque and cabaret. Based on three words: inspiration, empowerment and fun, they now train over 700 women in the art of fabulousness and most recently won a London Cabaret Award. Zoe is currently working on an autobiographical show involving, theatre, burlesque and comedy. (Pictured here.)
Our 'late entry' for this Challenge is Linda Duberley whose 25 year career has spanned news journalism for several leading UK newspapers, founding news anchor for Sky Television, a financial reporter for CNBC, the Asia correspondent for Fox News and a current affairs reporter for Tonight with Sir Trevor McDonald. She is now a media strategist with her own consultancy, Duberley Media, and still reports for the Tonight programme and writes for several national newspapers and magazines.
Of course, we wouldn't leave five comedy virgins to face the crowd by themselves, and they have four fantastic mentors who have been helping our Challengers to prepare for their comedy debuts: Janet Bettesworth, Teresa Jennings, Elizabeth Mee, Vicky Pierson and Courtney Cornfield.
