Funny Women Looking for the Write Stuff

Funny Women Looking for the Write Stuff

29th May 2013

However, not every writer is a performer, and it’s easy to forget that there’s a huge number of talented women making their mark outside the spotlight.

The Comedy Writing Award is a chance for those happier behind the scenes to shine. Presented this year in conjunction with award-winning comedy production company The Comedy Unit and leading news platform The Huffington Post, the winning script will receive a £500 script option fee for a 12 month development period, which will include three weeks intensive mento…

On this occasion, I was stumbling around in cyber space, (virtual shoes in hand, literal dollop of mayo in fringe) and I happened upon the Funny Women website. FUNNY WOMEN AWARDS NOW OPEN. Huh? The what? I started having a …

Supporting women in comedy

Supporting women in comedy

13th February 2013

We’d like to explain why we’re keeping the registration fee for the Funny Women Awards.  In past years there has been some industry comment about our decision but we would like to emphasise that we don’t charge people to perform and we have no intention of exploiting anybody- this is the antithesis of what we strive to achieve. We use the administration fee to allow us to book quality venues and provide a support structure with constructive feedback for participants, which helps us to achieve our objective of helping women find and develop their voice.

When we introduced the fee in 2011, we were not aware of the ‘pay to play’ controversy that swept N…

Real Funny Women Award goes to Coppafeel! Founder

Real Funny Women Award goes to Coppafeel! Founder

1st October 2012

Every year, Funny Women asks you to nominate a Real Funny Woman whose innately upbeat attitude to life never fails to make you smile.

This year, Kris Hallenga was nominated for turning her harrowing experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer into a full-time mission to encourage her friends, and her generation, to get to know their boobs.

At 23, Kris was told that not only did she have breast cancer, but that it had spread to her spine. Kris was, and three years later, still is is, at stage four, the most advanced type of cancer. There is no stage five.

However, Kris turned her shock and anger into pure kick-ass by launching the breast cancer awareness charity…
