The rumours are true! Funny Women are finally hosting the weekend event you've all been waiting for. Two days of taking a uniquely humorous approach to empowerment, encouragement, entertainment and fun from some top comedy writers, confidence coaches and improv experts, now all yours for the booking.

On Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February 2013 our ingeniously curated programme will be packed full of advice and techniques for getting the best out of yourself.  Whether you want to perform comedy or hone your public speaking skills, our tried and tested introductory and advanced workshops have already set the benchmark and this extended programme is sure to build your confidence, help you communicate and get your creative juices flowing.

We’ve lined up some great speakers to inspire you and there will be time for networking, panel discussions and some entertainment too.

Lynne Parker, founder of Funny Women, will be hosting Funny Women’s popular ‘Stand Up to Stand Out’ workshop, in which participants learn how the techniques from stand-up can be used in day to day life to get ahead and get your voice heard. You’ll be encouraged to write and perform your own material during the weekend so this workshop is great for kickstarting inspiration, resolving 'writers block' and overcoming performance 'butterflies'.

Hattie Naylor will bring her award-winning comedy writing experience to lead a workshop on how to create comic characters. Hattie was a judge on the Funny Women Comedy Writing Award in 2012, and teaches scriptwriting on the MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. In 2010 Hattie won the Tinniswood Award for the Best Original Radio Drama broadcast in 2009 for her play 'Ivan and the Dogs'.

Paul Dodgson is a hugely acclaimed comedy writer and will be hosting a workshop for us on writing for radio. Paul has written twelve plays for BBC Radio 4, spent 18 months on the 'Eastenders' writing team (you’ve got to have a sense of humour to do that, Ed) and was the writer on the award winning drama-documentary series 'Monsters We Met' for BBC2. Paul’s most recent radio play, 'You Drive Me Craz'y, was broadcast in January this year and was a radio memoir about himself, motorways and madness. Paul regularly hosts writing workshops both in the UK and abroad. Read more about Paul HERE.

Courtney Cornfield will be hosting a workshop on improvisation skills, both in comedy and in life. Courtney is a top North American improviser, a Funny Women regular and mentor for our Charity Challenge participants. Courtney has had many years of improv experience spanning both sides of the Atlantic. At Calgary’s Loose Moose Theatre, Courtney wrote sketches for late night sketch shows and undertook improv training alongside globally renowned trainers Keith Johnstone, Dennis Cahill and Shawn Kinley. Courtney was fortunate enough to be one of the first of 14 improvisers to play Johnstone’s Micetro Improv when it was in its fledgling state.

Zoe Charles of ‘The Cheek of It’ will show you how awareness of your feminine physicality can improve self confidence and performance skills. She will also help you to learn about charm and storytelling. After originally training in drama and working as an acting teacher, Zoe saw a burlesque show in 2005 and was immediately hooked. 'The Cheek of It' burlesque school now teaches over 700 women each year how to feel confident and empowered using this unique art form.

Taking place in the intimate surroundings of B:Hive, a beautiful women’s business club set up by Lynne Franks, we’re throwing in some informal networking, panel discussions, performances, special guest speakers and a few drinks to make the weekend go with an extra humorous swing. All this only costs £250, PLUS we are offering our readers a 10% early-bird discount so you can book for just £225.

So, go on - BOOK NOW - you know you want to!  For more information and to book, click HERE.

I'd love to join in but can't do the whole weekend: is it all or nothing? Carol

Hi there

Great idea, but untested and a shame as I would have been happy to attend a "taster" session, for a much reduced price, with the option of going on to the further more expensive course later on.

Hello Maria, Carol and Anon,

Carol- I'm afraid there is one set price for the weekend, rather than single session prices.

Just to let you know that we do offer shorter introductory Comedy Workshops which allow you to learn about how you can use stand-up techniques in every-day life. This will give you a good idea of what we at Funny Women do. Details can be found here if you would be interested in taking part: http://www.funnywomen.com/events/2013-02-02

Do you know if there a reasonable hotel near to the venue that you could recommend for us non-London attendees? Seriously want to do this, & had originally thought accomodation was included, until I read through everything properly just now!
The train there & back on both days would probably be a bit knackering but don't want to pay £200 for a hotel on top of the workshop price too.

Hi Medusa,

I recommend using lastminute.com, laterooms.com and Groupon- there are always last minute central London hotel deals!
