Sara Pascoe - The Musical
What I like about Sara is that she takes an idea and runs with it. I can imagine her thinking about her show and saying, ‘I know – I’ll write a musical’. Of course it isn’t a musical but does have several musical interludes, and is, as the flyers and posters say, mostly stand-up!
Sara is one of the new breed of comedians, and the female tag does not apply here, who truly know how to construct an hour of entertainment. It’s difficult to be on stage, all by yourself, with no props, a guitar for occasional strumming, and capture the audiences attention throughout. This Sara does with skill and sheer talent.
From the get-go, we are with her – on her journey through life in her wavering, idiosyncratic narrative style, with light and dark and above all a world likeability that has made Sara the star she already is. It’s no wonder the casting agents have already picked her up for roles in Campus, Twenty Twelve, and Stand Up for the Week. Charisma is not a given and you need to leave your audiences wanting more, not desperate to shoot out of the door.
Sara is one of those girls who, by her own admission, is a bit of an ‘oddball’ and like so many people who choose stand up to ‘come out’ about their oddness, she uses this to wonderful ‘over-achieving’ effect. You’ll need to see the show for yourself to see what I mean.
Go soon – I predict a sell out.
What she was talking about: catchy tunes, morals, growing up, over-achieving.
