We believe that we’ve discovered something very special here at Funny Women.  After our recent 10th Anniversary Charity Challenge event where 10 women from all different walks of life performed comedy, we were fascinated by the fact that various men immediately came forward to volunteer themselves to a similar sort of fate!  Never shirking a Challenge ourselves, we’ve decided that we’ll take on the men and stage another fantastic Challenge event later this year.

2010 Funny Women Awards runner up Rachel Parris and finalist Clare Lomas have won their way into the final of this year’s Musical Comedy Awards.

This is the annual showcase of the country's best emerging musical comedians.  After 11 phenomenal shows at the Wilmington Arms in London’s Clerkenwell and a dead heat in votes for the final fifth place, the producers decided to put through six finalists to compete in the final showcase on Saturday April 7th at the Bloomsbury Theatre.

Quite a scary thought!  5,000 plus Guardian readers all under one roof, scurrying from event to event hosted by such literary luminaries as Polly Toynbee, Simon Hoggart and Jon Ronson.  So, when I was invited to run a ‘How to be funny’ workshop at 11.15am on a sunny Sunday morning, as part of the Guardian Open Weekend  the enormity of the undertaking didn’t sink in!

The brilliant people at WinkBall have captured the evening of our 10th Anniversary Challenge beautifully. They have over 60 videos up on their site featuring interviews with the stars of the show including Kate Garraway, our wonderful Challengers, the Funny Women team and audience members. The event which challenged 10 women from all walks of life to perform stand up for the first time in aid of 10 different charities, took place on 8th March 2012, International Women's Day.
