As temperatures in Brighton soared on Sunday, tensions also reached boiling point within the Funny Women camp, or at the very least, the inside of Lynne’s car. Helicopters are an excessive mode of transport but Lynne could have done with being rescued by one as she found herself marooned in traffic that was moving with all the speed of the sun-bathers on Brighton beach that afternoon.
With but two minutes to go before the competition heat started Lynne made it to Brighton’s Komedia, not in the mood to start seeing the funny side of things. Fortunately, our fantastic assistant Cara Cummings had strangely put her faith in public transport some hours earlier and …

Mrs Barbara Nice, everyone’s favourite mum and antidote to a ‘right shite’ day, is never one to just potter off stage after a gig. Her performances always takes us ‘higher and hiya’ but even we were surprised to witness just how agile she is for her age when she ended her headline set at Wednesday’s competition heat ‘luging’ down the spiral staircase at Manchester’s Frog and Bucket. Clearly not from the generation that respects health and safety regulations. Of course, this is what keeps comedy so fun and unpredictable, you can never be certain of what’s going to happen…

Congratulations to our Suzy Bennett who not only hosted Playtex’s Moon Walk, alongside Andi Osho and Miss London but also walked the Half Moon, coming in at the finishing line for 5.30 on Sunday morning… we think it might be a while until she gets her energy back to crack some jokes. Suzy and her friends from Madame Tussauds (real friends, not the waxworks) raised £1,500, a fantastic contribution towards the amount raised so far – nearly £2million.
Suzy, Andi and Miss London had an incredible time entertaining an audience of almost 20,000, a great achievement of their part and no doubt brilliant experience for their future sell-outs at Wembley one day. P…

Forget the Lambeth Walk, the most important walk this weekend in London will be The Moon Walk. And no, it won’t be hosted by the late and great Michael Jackson (although wouldn’t that be the most incredible PR stunt the world’s ever seen?) but far funnier (and probably less strange) the wonderful Suzy Bennett, Andi Osho and Miss London, all previous winners of the Funny Women competition. What a great way to kick off such an important night of fundraising and if there’s one thing that laughter gives you it’s energy – we’ve no doubt this incredible line-up will provide mile upon mile of laughter fuel to keep the walkers walking.

Regardless of who gets the keys to 10 Downing Street this Thursday, the 2010 election has cemented how important performance is when it comes to capturing audiences’ imagination. It’s also highlighted the fickle nature of our world too, as important as rhetoric is, we’re easily led by style over substance, and as easily won over by quintessential heart throb looks, normally attributed to Colin Firth.
A few months ago, people were still tittering at ‘Nick Who?’ jokes but the scoffs were subsequently silenced by the mass hysterics of Clegg-Mania when Nick became an overnight sensation after his first appearance in the election debat…
