Talented blogger wins BiB Laugh! Award

Congratulations to Claire Smith the creator of Ministry of Mum who won the Laugh! category in the prestigious Brilliance in Blogging, BiB Awards. Claire received her trophy from TV presenter Katy Hill, who ran the proceedings with her own humorous and engaging style. A fabulous evening all round with winners across 12 different categories.
Founder of Funny Women, Lynne Parker, judged the Laugh! Category and attended the Awards ceremony which took place at The Brewery, in the City of London at the end of the busy first day of BritMums Live.
This is what Lynne had to say about Ministry of Mum: “Fabulous writing, clean and simple lay out, no visual gags, and the ‘Vlog’ has great potential! Claire has taken her humorous voice to the next stage, which I think is brave too.”
Claire set up her blog to find a solution to her so-called ‘small life’. She explains “Since having three children I have given up a music industry career and having my own shop. Some days I feel that I'm just going through the motions of motherhood and wondering where my life went wrong. Hence trying to write, it's a sort of mummy therapy and, well, it gives me a piece of me again.”
Other entries singled out for credit in the Laugh! Category by Lynne include Motherventing and My Funny Mummy.
Speaking about Motherventing, Lynne says: “This was my favourite design as at first glance it all looks very ‘business like’ yet it has a sharpness of tone which tackles the issues of motherhood head on with a strong humour. This website has a really clear ‘personality’ and makes me want to read more."
The creator of My Funny Mummy, Cathey Briars, writes for our Funny Mummies column on a regular basis. Lynne says, “Of my top three sites, this one has the liveliest visual presence which still manages not to detract from the content. My kids are all grown up (supposedly!) so anything that captures some of the highs and lows of parenthood past and makes me laugh about it, has to be good.”
The brief for this category was to select a blog that was ‘a pleasure to read both for content and user experience’.
“I tried to choose sites where the visual impact didn’t detract from the tone of voice,” explains Lynne. “Simple, clean lay out that complements the content, relevant visuals, use of video, all add up to something that you want to read, and keep coming back for more. Overall, with communicating humour, less is more.”
