We’ve witnessed an emergence of comedy porn over the last couple of gigs. 'Talking cock' is not some perverse kind of ventriloquism act, but a prophylactic…. oops, sorry, a proliferation of women telling the equivalent of a ‘knob joke’ so beloved of male comedians!

At a recent London Nights gig at the Leicester Square Theatre every act on the bill bar one had a gag (pardon the pun) about oral sex! At one extreme we had a detailed explanation of a sexual practice called a ‘crockpot’ (don’t ask) to the more innocent description of a slogan on an apron that described a form of multitasking which combined sex with cooking.

Now we’re not prudish about this kind of thing but surely we’ve got better things to make a joke out of than the male member. In fact men do a pretty good job of this themselves, telling willy jokes that is. They're not confined to just talking about their treasured body part either - just look at those nice athletic young men manipulating their manhood in Puppetry of the Penis. Their ‘hamburger’ is hardly an appetiser!

Leave the filthy talk for the girls’ night out and let’s mine the rich seam of comedy to be found in our everyday lives. Accepted there’s always a few squirmy uncomfortable moments in comedy, but let’s push all our comic boundaries beyond the realms of sexual practice. After all, what does L’Oreal say? We’re worth it!
