Crashing out with the carbs

Crashing out with the carbs 1

Bursting through the front door, dropping our bags in our rooms, we bolt to the kitchen, I grab popcorn, Jen gets half baked bread rolls...what's quickest to cook? We'll have both. We eat the popcorn while the rolls cook.

Popcorn eaten. Still hungry. Sweet potatoes and nut burgers, both go in the oven.

The rolls are ready, they get demolished too. Everything else gets put on a plate, we head to the couch.

It's there it begins. Our fast fall into a carb induced coma, we don't normally eat this much, this late at night, we sit glued to the laptop watching Celebrity Big Brother...neither of us says anything, we just stare at the screen, I don't even remember us laughing, normally you can't shut us up or get us to sit down but after 17 hours awake, we have been up since 6.00am, its now 10.00pm and each of us has done five hours of exercise today including two spin classes, running, pilates, personal training and a ballet class, we are done in.

Our usual non-stop chat, has stopped, we feel like zombies and need a good feed.

For 60 minutes we just sit there glued to the screen.

Then the episode finishes, waking us from our coma. What just happened? What time is it? That's what happens when you gorge on white carbs... the quick sugar rush, followed by a massive sugar crash.

Now I wish I could say that this was a nutritional exercise and we were monitoring our blood sugars but truth be told, it wasn't. After all we are real people and we just had what everyone else has, that big carb craving after a long day, with the added factor of lots of exercise. Sometimes nothing else satisfies like a warm bread roll and a slouch on the sofa.
