Runner up Bekka Bowling on Being Robbed!

Runner up Bekka Bowling on Being Robbed! 1

The Funny Women experience has been one of the best of my life. In all honesty, when my name was called as runner up I did have an overwhelming urge to be the first woman in the history of the competition to, upon being presented with my bouquet, throw it to the ground, stamp on it, fall to my knees theatrically with outspread arms and cry, “WHY!!!!??? I WAS ROBBED!!!!”

In all seriousness though, I was dumbfounded with the outcome and couldn’t be happier. The array of talent on the night was astounding and a terrific two-fingers-up to anyone who says women aren’t funny!  I mean, sure, it would have been nice to win. And boy, could I do with the prize money? But as I sit here, eating dry dog biscuits and shivering because I can’t afford to have any heating, I know that I‘m still a winner!

If there  are any women out there who have ever wanted to give comedy a go but have never quite had the balls (not sure about the Funny Women’s entry policy on transgender) I would say, give it a go. It has opened so many doors for me and been utterly liberating. I have also made some great friends and am already working with some of the other finalists (on comedy, not in Boots- No disrespect to people who work in Boots, I love the advantage card).

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank Funny Women for everything. Not least, for publicising  the hilarious winner Lara A King’s tour dates for the next year. Now I can break into her house and nab the trophy when she’s out!
