Lara A King crowned Funny Women Awards Winner 2011
Lara A King, this year's winner of the 2011 Funny Women Awards, talks about her victory.
"This time last year I sat in the audience of the final of the Funny Women Awards at Leicester Square Theatre and watched as Thankless Child excitedly took first prize. “One day that could be me...” I pondered as I stood, grinning like an idiot and applauding along with a huge, hugely appreciative, supportive crowd in a beautiful, luxurious, proper, big grown up theatre....with proper lights and microphones and everything...
"Last night it was my turn. I’m still grinning like an idiot. To perform on a proper stage, in front of a crowd who are out to enjoy a night of female comedy, in such a glorious setting was absolutely thrilling. The acts all totally supported one another with genuine empathy and goodwill; Suzy B was the consummate host, providing encouragement and Krispy Kremes; and congratulations to the Funny Women team who, after a controversial year are still committed to providing a nurturing environment and a fabulous platform for women in comedy. And they can put on a show!!
"To actually be crowned the winner at the end of that show, to have people laughing and clapping and cheering and whooping....well, that made a little bit of wee come out."
