Clownbusting - Zoe Lyons Review
You know something is good when it's all over before you've even looked at the time. In a strange ice cube shaped venue which holds the promise of a 'winter wonderland' expererience but in reality is as basic inside as most of the temporary space aroudn the Pleasance Courtyard, Zoe Lyons prevails with uncanny insight upon the thoughts of her audeince. Taking on the the mantle of middle age at just 39 (she's 40 in a couple of months) Zoe makes the most of this covering topics as wide as the elderly on holiday and malapropism in her mispent youth.
Zoe's delglee at discovering the delights of the Snuggy is a major feature of the show and observations of its many benefits occur throughout. You are left with a vision of Zoe and her girifriend Cindy playing some weird Safari charade as they don their respective fleece blankets with arms in complementary leopard and zebra print. Very funny.
As is Zoe's riff about the Edinburgh Tattoo being a traditional Scottish version of 'Logan's Run', designed as a way of culling the elderly population. If the aged audiences don't pop their clogs on the way up the hill from coach to castle, the loud fireworks will guarantee heart failure!
Zoe has an engaging physicality which holds your attention throughout and embroiders all her tales into one rich comedic tapestry that is really unmissable. You don't want it to end.
