Take the Funny Women Challenge

We've been facing up to the challenge of proving that women really are very funny for the last nine years.  With hundreds of great new female acts on the circuit who've gone through our annual new talent competition, the Funny Women Awards, we want to show that everybody can tap into their innate sense of humour and use it to communicate effectively in their business and social lives, as well as on a stage.

Funny Women regularly challenge women from the worlds of business, arts & media, academia and industry, not generally associated with the world of the comedy circuit, to perform three minutes of stand up comedy for the first time in their lives to a paying audience.

These events are held in partnership with organisations and charities such as the Hoxton Apprentice Professional Women’s Network, The Victoria Foundation,  Sister Snog and the 3rdi who have benefited from the profile and funds raised at these events.

Each of the Challengers are mentored by Funny Women performers and trainers, who are often professional women in their own right.

If you would like to work with us to produce a Funny Women Challenge event, please call 020 8948 4444 or email info@funnywomen.com.

Our latest Challenge took place in the grand surroundings of Cannizaro House in Wimbledon with our charity partner, The Victoria Foundation.  Read all about the fantastic evening HERE

Testimonials

“Tuesday night was one of the most amazing evenings of my life.  Truly.  It was amazing for a number of reasons... The first being that I had set myself a personal challenge to do something that REALLY scared me, and I did it – WOW.  The second is because we managed to raise a significant amount of money for disabled children who need it in the Richmond Borough, so big warm fuzzies  from that.  Thirdly I made some friends with the amazing women who did this with us.  Fourthly, I laughed a lot, everyone was really funny and I feel so proud to have been a part of the evening. Finally I learned that I can be funny (remember I started out by saying “but I’m not funny”) and want to keep going. Thank you so much for asking me to be a part of this Lynne, it was a fantastic experience and I would like to also thank you for all your support.”

Julie Hall, Women Unlimited, The Victoria Foundation Comedy Challenge, The Bingham, Richmond.

"Thanks so much for being such a fantastic, supportive and gorgeous bunch of go getting women. It has been a pleasure meeting you and working with you. I’m up for another possible public execution if ever you have space for me. I’d love to do it again and develop more material. Also happy to help out with Funny Women in any way I can."

Mairi McHaffie, SceneChange Creative Consultants, Hoxton Apprentice Comedy Challenge.

“I’ve made presentations in front of hundreds of people at venues as diverse as the House of Lords and The Glasgow Concert Hall but the idea of stand up comedy took me completely out of my comfort zone. The net result is that I had an absolute ball and started a fan club for my football mad mother!"

Karen Birch, The 3rdi, Glasgow Comedy Challenge.

“I’ve never done stand-up before and I loved every minute of it. It was so much fun. The pre-performance nerves disappeared as soon as I realised I had so much dialogue to remember! I say have a go and have a laugh...oh and women are funny. Very funny.” Annie

“Stepping up to the plate and entering the Funny Women Challenge has been a marvellous adventure and it’s only just beginning. I’m not quite sure where our double act will go. But as a result of performing in front of our members at The Garrison at Stand-Up with Sister Snog, Annie and I took it to the next level and entered The Funny Women Awards.” Hela

'Lil & Vi', Annie Brooks & Hela Wozniak-Kay, Sister Snog Comedy Challenge, London.

The panic and fear that gripped me yesterday afternoon was incredible – I was in my kitchen cleaning table tops and crying knowing I was supposed to be at Cannizaro at 3:30pm and just not doing anything about it!!! Finally at 4:15 I rang my son and told him he needed to give ma a lift to Cannizaro at 4:45. Well from volunteering myself to do the comedy – it wasn’t me I was possessed.

Meeting all you wonderful people along the journey and finally performing yesterday – it has been a scary but fantastic journey. I can actually say that in the end I enjoyed it thoroughly!! One of the best things that has happened for me is that I have connected with an amazing, wonderful and extremely talented group of people who I would not have met otherwise.

Kish Modasia, The Victoria Foundation Comedy Challenge, Cannizaro House, Wimbledon.
