The applications for the 2010 Funny Women Awards have reached an all time high and we've been on the road since May seeing all this wonderful new talent around the UK. We have already beaten our record for entries in the competition with over 350 new acts registered to take part. But you can still enter - please complete your application as soon as possible so that we can process your entry and make sure you get a place in one of our remaining showcases.
Entry is open to any woman who can perform 5 minutes of comedy - this includes all variants of 'funny' as well as stand up - funny songs, poetry, impressions, ventriloquism, sketch and character acts. We are keen to attract a greater variety of acts this year and are always looking for new and interesting performers for our regular shows.
We endeavour to see as many acts in our live events as possible and we were amazed at the level and diversity of female talent we saw in 2009. If you didn't enter or get through to the semi finals last year please keep working on your performance and have another go this year.
If you want some help with your performance we are running some special Awards workshops during this year's run. These are at a discounted rate of £35 instead of our usual £45 and will help those of you who might think they are not ready to tread the boards, to maybe take the plunge. When we're not busy with the competition we run regular, non competitive showcases in the lovely basement studio at the Leicester Square Theatre, on the second Sunday of the month. We feature winners and other acts from our Awards that we think are the 'ones to watch' along with a few of our favourite female acts and some newcomers.
These will now stop until later in the year but if you are a NEW ACT desperate for stage time, please do ENTER THE AWARDS as you will have just as much fun and attention taking part in them as you would at our non-competitive gigs.
