Funny Women is at the vanguard of nurturing and promoting female comedy talent – from finding and developing new acts through its annual competition, the Funny Women Awards, to working with established performers.
Founded in 2002 by Lynne Parker, former journalist, broadcaster and marketing consultant, Funny Women has become a leading comedy brand, promoting new female talent through live events, workshops and training programmes.
We produce our own shows and tours, as well as bespoke events for companies and brands. The success of the Funny Women Awards has introduced many new women performers onto the comedy scene and we continue to provide a platform for them to grow and develop.
Over the last seven years we've come to recognise that women can achieve a lot by finding their comic voice, so we now run public workshops around the UK for women who want to learn about performing stand up comedy in a safe, non threatening environment. We have also launched Funny Women in Business to organise corporate workshops for companies and organisations for their female employees, showing them how to use humour to build confidence and improve presentation skills.
Part of Funny Women's ethos is to raise funds for causes relating to women – from charities that conduct research into female specific cancers to organisations that work towards combating violence against women.
Funny Women recognises that comedy is all about passion and fun. We have a packed schedule of events in 2010 including our sell out Second Sunday Showcases at the Leicester Square Theatre, where you can see some of the best female comedy talent from the circuit and beyond, and a whole new look Funny Women Awards set to tour some of the UK's best arts venues and festivals.
Our annual charity gala, Funny Women Stand Up, took place on 8th March, International Women's Day, at the Leicester Square Theatre in aid of V-Day and we are currently part of a ground breaking new festival, See You Next Tuesday, celebrating the art of female culture, until 20th March. Check out our new forum event, Not Just a Pretty Face, on Monday 15th March and our brand new show, Sex, Lies & Lots of Cake on Thursday 18th March.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our events this year.
